We do not accept, bill, or participate in any insurance plans and are considered out-of-network providers. We use a membership model to allow us to see patients free from traditional fee-for-service constraints, meaning longer visits, flexible scheduling and direct access to your physician. Your insurance company may reimburse you for out-of-network services, but this varies widely with each insurance plan. If you have any questions about out-of-network reimbursement, contact your individual insurance representative for additional information. We can provide the necessary documentation to file for reimbursement with your insurance provider.
Insurance coverage is strongly encouraged. Membership is not an insurance plan or substitute for health insurance. It is typically advantageous to have health insurance to cover hospital bills, lab tests, imaging, vaccines, specialist appointments, and medications. PPO plans facilitate easy specialist access. High-deductible plans or healthshare plans are sometimes a good complement to DPC. Please discuss with your insurance provider.
Membership fees are charged monthly (on the first day of the month) to your bank account or credit card on file. Your registration fee of $100 is due at the time of registration.
The use of an HSA card to pay for your membership fee should be discussed with your accountant and it is the parents’ responsibility to ensure eligibility of use in accordance with IRS guidelines.
Yes. I currently require a 3-month commitment for new patients.
I understand that your needs may change, and I want to help you through whatever transitions you're making. I do require a 30-day written notice for cancellations. The 3-month membership commitment must be honored. A re-enrollment fee may be assessed for families who wish to return after a cancellation, if space allows.
Visits to specialists, urgent care, emergency rooms, or admissions to the hospital, as well as lab work, X-rays, and prescriptions obtained outside Freedom Pediatrics. Vaccines are also not covered.
Strep tests, urinalysis, and blood glucose are included in your membership fee. I’ve negotiated with labs and imaging centers to get low-cost lab tests and reduced imaging costs in case your insurance doesn’t cover these.
Vaccination has become a highly emotional, politicized topic and it can be hard for parents to know what to believe. Every parent is trying to make the best decision about vaccines for their children, and it’s my job to provide them with unbiased, neutral information based on the most trustworthy information from a wide range of sources. Like any medical intervention or treatment, there are risks and benefits to every vaccine – and parents should be able to discuss those with their pediatrician.
I support a parent’s right to make medical decisions for their child. I do require that parents sign a consent form if they choose to delay vaccines.
I do not administer vaccines as it's not financially or logistically feasible. Patients may receive vaccines in one of three ways: local health department, local pharmacy, or a pediatric office in Overland Park has agreed to administer the vaccines and bill your insurance.
Well checks, sports and camp physicals should be scheduled in advance during regular office hours. For sick and urgent care visits I will try to see your child that day or the next day. Often many issues can be handled with a phone call, email or video chat.
Yes. There is an added fee for this based on the driving distance from my office.
I am able to see newborns at Advent Health Shawnee Mission. Those visits are included with your membership fee.
Because I know you well, I can streamline your care when you’re sick away from home. Many illnesses can be diagnosed and treated with a simple conversation by phone, email, or video chat. Once I determine the best course of care, I may call in a prescription, locate the nearest urgent care or ER, and even discuss your child’s medical history with a local provider if necessary.
If your child has a life-threatening emergency, please call 911 and seek emergency medical care. For non-urgent questions and medication refills, please send an email message through the portal and I’ll get back to you the next business day during regular business hours. For urgent questions that cannot wait until the next morning, members will be given a way to contact me after hours.
Having health insurance does not guarantee excellent pediatric care or service. Many pediatricians have large patient panels and cannot take extra time to address multiple concerns at one visit or even see you the same day you call. Many insurance plans have very high deductibles and urgent care is expensive! The membership fee at Freedom Pediatrics allows you to have direct contact with the physician who knows your child and ensure all your questions are answered and concerns are addressed. With this style of practice, I have the time to spend discussing sleep, nutrition, physical activity, mental health, and academics. Together, we can create a plan to optimize your child's health and overall wellbeing.
Childhood illnesses and injuries are unpredictable. With traditional pediatric practices you may be referred to an urgent care or ER for care that can easily be provided by your pediatrician. A single visit to an ER or urgent care can carry a cost equal to months of personalized care at Freedom Pediatrics.
A limited number of memberships have been reserved for children who need access to care without the means to pay for this convenience. Email today to see if any discounted spots are available.
I would love to meet you. Please email me and we can schedule a time to meet and discuss the ways I can serve your newest family member.
